Dynamic Suburban Townhouse

Project Description:
"Dynamic Suburban Townhouse," my fourth-year university project, reimagines the traditional Glasgow townhouse for the modern era. This design brings a contemporary twist to suburban living, focusing on community engagement and a seamless blend of personal and professional spaces.
Central to the project is the fostering of community interaction. The townhouses are intentionally designed with communal areas near circulation spaces, encouraging residents to connect and engage with one another. This architectural choice is essential in cultivating a lively and interactive community.
A standout feature of the townhouses is their innovative cladding. Made of powder-coated aluminium, it integrates thermo-chromatic panels that change colour in response to temperature variations. This cladding is not only visually striking but also functionally significant, as it helps regulate the building's temperature. The geometric patterns on the panels, reminiscent of architects' working plans, symbolize the meticulous process of design and construction.
These thermo-chromatic panels represent the project's emphasis on integrating art and technology into architecture. Their dynamic colour change enhances the aesthetic appeal while demonstrating adaptability and responsiveness to environmental conditions.
The design also addresses the evolving nature of work, especially in the context of remote working. By incorporating dedicated 'working zones' adjacent to residential spaces, the project allows for a physical 'commute' within the home. This arrangement promotes a healthy work-life balance and encourages interaction among neighbours, fostering a sense of community even in a professional context.
One of the buildings uniquely incorporates an existing artwork wall from a listed structure, adapting it for communal purposes like food growth. This not only preserves historical elements but also adds to the project's sustainability and communal focus.
"Dynamic Suburban Townhouse" stands as a testament to modern urban living. It skilfully balances communal interaction, work-life harmony, and environmental consciousness, all within a contemporary architectural framework.
